Now, what's everyone thankful for this year?

I actually sat down and made a list tonight, to remind myself that life isn't really as bad as it seems. Prolly get a little sappy, but what the heck. Sometimes you've just got to look at things the other way around.

I'm thankful for:
My family, because without them I would be alone, and because they never judge, only support, although they are capable <and do on occasion> set me on my a$$ as gently but firmly as necessary.
My friends, because they keep me grounded when I need them, and are quick to celebrate with me when times are good.
My job, because I get to do something I love, meet people from all over the world, and improve the world a little for everyone who comes to see a show.
My health, which while not perfect, is still good enough, and much better than many others'.
My cat, who gives me unconditional love, even when I screw up.
My mother, who raised me to be the person I am, and gave me my sense of self, my sense of right and wrong, and my commitment to doing what is right as opposed to what is easy.
My luck, because although I've hit two deer in as many years while driving at a high rate of speed, I've never been hurt, and the tally could have been a LOT higher given how much I drive.
My sense of humour. While it's often dark, it often gets me through things I couldn't imagine facing, even when all I really want to do is curl up in a ball and give up.
Message boards, which give me even more opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, from all over the world, some of whom have developed into real friends.

There are more, but that's enough to share here. I don't usually go for the introspective thing, but after the last couple of weeks, I needed it. Even when things are awful, there is something to be thankful for, and I'm glad I found mine.

Thanks to my friends here, old and new. One in particular who always tells me I am way richer than I know. My friends give me comfort unstintingly. Bless and preserve them always.

I am thankful for my cat Evelyn. She loves me unconditionally. She is playful, silly and loves her hugs, kisses and brushs. She makes me a better person each and every day plus she gives me comfort on a daily basis. How great is that??

I am thankful for the opportunity to live and experience new joys and challenges. The joys make us happy, the challenges make us strong.

I am thankful that I grew up with parents that instilled great values in me. They have held me in good stead throughout my life.

I am thankful that I was taught to be respectful and well mannered. In today's world where they are sometimes few good manners displayed I am complimented on mine and being gracious by total strangers. Thank you Mom and Dad.

I am thankful that I grew up in a middle class family that had a working father (Professional Engineer) and working mother (business owner.) Both taught me to fend for myself and save money plus demonstrated strong work ethics.

I am thankful for all the teachers that could have been something else more glamorous or better paying but chose to be educators because they wanted to be a positive influence. They opened my mind to the pleasure of reading, doing and learning.

I give thanks to those such as the police, firepersons, doctors, lawyers, nurses, farmers and others whom form the core of society that take care of me when I can't and provide for me when possible and defend and give me succor when I cannot. Bless all of them.

I am thankful t my sisters who loved me even though sometimes I was a jerk. No matter how goofy I was they always forgave me and hugged and kissed me. Thanks Jan and Cinc.

I am thankful to my parents friends and my myriad aunts and uncles who listened enraptured to my stories as a child. They usually laughed at my stories or grinned ear to ear. Boy did I tell some whoppers.

Thank to my great country I live in and the one south of it. They give me security and the ability to travel with few restrictions. They are strong so that I may live mostly without fear. They have democracy so that I may express my views with a vote. They have free speech so that I may grouse, complain or praise as the situation warrants.

Finally, thanks to genetics for giving me many abilites. Some which I act upon, others that I have left fallow. However, it is my responsibility at all times to try my hardest and not be a shirker. My successes are the result of me, my family, my friends and circumstances. My failures are my own.
The lessons in humility, which are so neccessary so that I may see the real truth and not what I wish, a balance so that I may judge not, and a clear path to being a better person than I am today.
For these and the above, I am truly thankful.

Bless all my American friends, brothers and sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles. Enjoy your day and be well always. Be safe.
