ASUS A7S333 motherbard, Turtle Beach Montego 2 Quadzilla soundcard, Panasonic SA-AK33 5 cd changer used as speakers. When the volume is turned up, and the cd player is set on "Auxiliary", there is a fairly loud humming that is constant. CD player set on radio or cd mode the hum is gone. It can be drowned out by the music, but it is annoying when music isn't on at that moment. I am using Windows XP an using Winamp 2.91. All sound drivers are installed and this humming hasn't been there forever. I am upgrading motherboard and processor ( going from AMD to Intel) but I have a funny feeling the problem will still be there when I change. Any ideas?

try checking to make sure that the cable that connects your stereo to the pc is a)good and b) plugged in all the way
that could be the problem

Hmm, I say bad patch cord, damaged or loose jacks, or a failing switch.
alos AUX might be intended for line-in /out and the pre-amp is over loaded.
Maybe a ground loop.

Are you using a long cable to connect your PC to the Panasonic SA-AK33? Is the cable shielded? I've encountered similar humming sounds when I've used either a really long cable or a cheap unshielded cable to pipe the sound to an amplifier.

I'd say it's a ground loop. It happens. Try plugging your computer into a different socket than the stereo. If that doesn't work, try running an extension cord from another outlet on a different breaker and see if that clears it up. If not, your cord might be bad.

Hum can also be from flourescent lights if the cord shielding is weak. If you have flourescent lights, just turn 'em off and see if the hum disappears.

The hum went away with a windows reinstall. Must have been a windows sound driver that made it go wacky. Thanks everyone!
