I just tried setting up a home network between my desktop and my laptop. I'm using a Dlink router and while I can access the hi-speed (cable modem) connection, I can't get the actual network to run.

On my desktop, I can see the laptop in my Workgroup but when I click on it, I get a message about not having the clearance to view the laptop. On my laptop, when I click on the workgroup, I'm told I don't have clearance to view the workgroup.

I don't require passwords to log into either computer. Any ideas?

1st question: What OS are you running?

have you shared any folders on the computers. if you can browse to the boxes in your workgroup and see nothing under your puter name, there's your reason...

for details on how to fix that, answer Ace's question icon_wink.gif

does the router have a switch built in to it? if it doesnt, you will get internet but no networking capabilities from it
