I like the Normandy scene from "Saving Private Ryan" but to tell the truth I like the older movies: "The Big Red One", "Kelly's Heroes" (I know it's a comedy), "The Great Escape", "1941", "Force 10 from Navarone", etc., etc, etc...

I am not a fan of war movies, so I'd have to say I have no favourite!

I rememver that one GoofProof. Cool movie. Don't worry amandabobanda. I have another thread or two in mind. . .
Well if we are going 'documentary' type of war movie, I would have to say Patton. For the longest time (when I was a kid) I thought George C. Scott was actually Patton.
If we are going "recent" I would have to say Black Hawk Down.
Vietnam era then it would be Platoon. First time (and last) I had ever seen my father cry, period. It was during that movie.

Full Metal Jacket.
Johnny Got His Gun. <the book was infinitely better, though>
The Hunt for Red October.
Hamburger Hill.
Really didn't think I was a fan of war movies until I sat here thinking of movie titles...but most of them I didn't like because they were "war movies", it was because they also had something else to say.
Not seen Saving private Ryan yet, bought the DVD, not got round to watching it yet!!
Full metal Jacket,
Apocolypse Now!
Hunt for red october
The Killing Fields

Not a big fan. Can't remember the name but the one with Steve McQueen in it where he tries to escape on the motorcycle. The Killing Fields broke my heart. I read the book. It was terribly real.

I absolutely loved Platoon so that is up there. A bunch of others were good: saving private ryan, apocalypse now, etc... But Platoon still sticks out in my head as one of the best.

There are a ton more (Hot Shots, heh) The Bridge on the River Kwai, Tora! Tora! Tora!, The Desert Fox, Lawrence of Arabia, Bat 21, M.A.S.H., hell even Top Gun and First Blood. How could I forget The Dirty Dozen? I'll probably think up tons more. . .

"Where Eagles Dare" was one movie that taught me a lesson.
Where it once was one of my favorites, after watching it so many times, I could poke so many holes in it, that I'll probly never enjoy it again.
Now that you mention it, Das Boot is up there. One I own that and I won't make the same mistake with it.

Saving Private Ryan
The Big Red One
All Quiet on the Western Front (the original)
Platoon
The Boys of Company C
In Harms Way
Bridge Over the River Kwai
Das Boot
We Were Soldiers
The Longest Day
Porkchop Hill
The Guns of Navarone
Just a few of my favorites.
I really like a good war movie. I like a good quality movie that has good drama and really grabs you emotionally like the ending of Private Ryan or the ending of the Big Red One where they try and save the German soldier. I also like a good war movie where there is a lot of shit getting blown up.

In no particular order
They Were Expendible (John Wayne PT Boat movie)
Run Silent, Run Deep
Black Sheep Squadron
U-571
Pearl Harbor (for the attack scenes and Doolittle's Raid, not the sappy love triangle thing)
Flight of the Intruder
Top Gun
The Final Countdown
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Midway
Patton
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Cadence (not actual war/fighting, but set during Vietnam)
Windtalkers
Memphis Belle
Stalag 17
The Hunt for Red October
B.A.T. 21
Navy Seals
Blue Thunder (Cool-ass Helicopter combat stuff... and I won't mention the 'other' one, Viper...

)
And for pure, unadulterated bloodlust - Starship Troopers.
I like war flicks for some reason...

Hah, no worries for me then, I haven't seen it for 10 years...I just recalled that I thought it was really good then. I've been a big fan of Clint Eastwood since I saw "the good, the bad and the ugly" for the first time.

Crap - I forgot about the Green Berets, Good Morning Vietnam... Oh - and Heartbreak Ridge.
Broken Arrow was 'kinda' cool. Although SO unrealistic. Technically, it should've been called 'Empty Quiver' since the 'lost' the nukes.

But I suppose that could be misconstrued for a pr0n title or something.
