I'm a low brass horn player, Baritone Horn/Euphonium & Trombone in particular from the school days. I started in 6th grade and picked it up immediately. I'm told my father was an incredible trumpet player (when he wasn't being an asshole - my Mom's words...

)
As a result, I tend to prefer music that is constructed well and feels like all the elements belong together. And it's not about the lyrics as much for me as the actual music supporting it. Which is one reason I'm not a big fan of rap - most of it is not well put-together and the lyrics are pretty much saying the same thing by different people... and everyone's pissed for the most part.
Music that's fun to play is also a lot easier and fun to listen to, IMHO.
Plus, I grew up in the '80s and early '90s for the most part, just before people figured out how to rip each others' music off and make money at it. 'Samplers' do not have my respect as they're lazy in my eyes - it takes more skill to come up with your own stuff than rip someone else off.
