I've been messing with some speakers for my car the past few days. I gave a pair of 10inch Sony Xplod's a run tonight. They didn't sound good to me at all. What I would like to know is what are you using, and if you have any of the following; Rockford Frostgate, Kenwood dB+ or Kicker subs. What are your experiances with them, and what do you know about a ported box system. I've come to the decision that ported sounds much better(deeper bass, lower frequecys) than sealed box solutions. Anyhow any imput on the situation would be nice.
BTW, I was driving the Xplods with a 600W amp, 300W per channel and it just wasn't putting out enough bump or deep bass for my pleasure:)

JL audio and Punch is all Ive ever used. the JL sound better than anything Ive been around.. Well worth the extra $$$ IMO.

I used to have Rockford Fosgate, wouldn't choose anything else.

Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for.

I'm really considering a Rockford Fosgate 15" woofer. Everyone tells me 15"'s are terrible, but I just don't see it that way. I think if I feed it enough juice it would sound just fine.

the 15's will probably get u the bass u are looking for, but i say go for a pair of 12's, have two mates, one with 1 15, one with 2 12's... the 15 goes really low, but the 2 12's just sound incredible, turn it up and i cant even stay in the car. icon_eek.gif

I would try 12"'s but no one here has the kind of power to push them. Well to push them to the point that I would like to hear, the biggest thing i've seen in the parking lot is a 300W amp driving 2 12's. It wasn't very loud and they were in a sealed box which didn't help the low tones. I definatly want to go ported.
Mephist
well, of course, if you're running two 12's off just one 300W then u wont be able to get crap out of it.... an amp for each sub icon_eek.gif thats what my mate has... its shockingly loud... well, to me anyway...
then u mite want to consider another amp to run your other speakers off as well.

I don't run the 12's off of a 300w amp, one of my friends does. I don't have anything in the trunk right now. After the Xplod woofer incident, which is weird because my 5 1/4 xplods sound allright in the rear, I don't want to spend any money right now untill I get a good idea of what is out there and what sounds really damn good.

I had a JBL QT600 (600W @2ohms)running 2 JL Audio 12s in a sealed box. Not great for super low bass but the sound is tight and more realistic. Just my 2 cents

yeha, I really am looking for the ultra low frequency sounds that a ported system can produce. I've heard several sealed boxes and finding a really good sealed box seems to be a big problem, thats another reason I am going towards a ported system.

Go with the 2 12s. The way you won't be losing the mid-bass. and 2-12s, in the right cabinet, will go deeper and louder than one 15 alone. It's all mainly a matter of the size of the cabinet anyway. I'm surprised that you couldn't get acceptable volume out of 2-12s with a 300watt amp. I have a 60w/ch amp driving 1-15, 1-12, 2-5s, 1 mid horn and 2 super-tweeters per side. I guarantee that at 50%, they're louder than anything you have heard. A car interior should be a lot more efficient.

I have and always will swear by Kicker 10" or 12" subs in a bypass or enclosed box.

One cold winter morning here in NY, on my way to High School, I "shattered" my rear window of my car because of the bass.
