Mister 4x4
Told ya so, Ian.

OK - what did I do today...

I troubleshot and repaired 2 new install classrooms, tested a tape drive for the DLT Library on the 'other' server rack, and helped my coworker do some work that Norm was supposed to already have done many months ago... but apparently didn't.

Also scored an idea on what to get the Mrs for V-Day, and got the ball rolling on that.
Zim
Was inspired by LL and a few sales so I went and bought some new cloths.

Mister 4x4
Finally got my 4x4 club's domain name registered and working on my webserver. I also am now much smarter on how to host multiple sites on my machine and I think it will work, except that I'll need to restructure my webroot directory at some point in the future. Hopefully, when they finally release the domain name I want (I foolishly registered it last year without knowing what the Hell I was doing), I'll get things squared away and happy on my end.

Meanwhile, the new 4x4 club website is: http://www.concho4wheelers.org They wanted '.com' but they're also simple enough that they don't realize that there are many extensions for domain names.

The club's webpages are also undergoing a major rebuild, so if something's under construction, it won't be that way for long.

My friend made me run Baal runs in Diablo 2 and I hit level 41 which was nice. Now I just need level 46 to use a +3 traps amulet. Baal runs get really boring though.

Saturday: ripped apart an 87 Wagoneer- took out the powerpack, axles, springs, driveshafts, everything not attached to the body. Took home the axles, driveshafts, springs, wheels and tires, and steerage. All of my parts for the Blazer SAS are now in hand. Now I get to learn how to do Ring and Pinion work! While I'm at it, going to go ahead and put an Aussie Locker in the rear and some sort of selectable locker up front

Sunday: not much- went wheeling, found out I need to do some major hacking of the fenderwells as I was stuffing my tires into the fenders front and rear to the extent they jammed still. Found out why my brakes suck-- the rears weren't working. Somehow, the emergency brake was assembled backwards by the previous owner, as well.

Monday: found out I'm supposed to be in Iceland. Wish someone had told me....

Bored out of ma skull!

Nah- just been busy.

Turns out I am going to Alaska on the 17th February-2nd March. Just in time for the COLD season. Yay.

Took a note from everyone that suggested proper cold weather gear and scored a $300 arctic parka from Cabellas, unused, on Ebay for $60. It ROCKS, if I do say so myself... and I do. Will pick up boots and a snow bib when I get on site as I figure they'll be a heck of a lot cheaper there in WalMart and the like, than I can get them over the web and shipped to SC. Got lots of fleece <I love Ebay>, including this swank headsock that coverts 4 or 5 different ways. I don't plan on getting cold.

I'm basically as ready as I will ever be to freeze my dangly bits solid. I might have to adapt to the situation and wear more substantial undergarments, as I fully plan to be out in it while I'm up there if I'm not actively at work.

My latest interest other than the standard vehicle modifications: Mini Speedwing . All up from ground zero to put into the air it was just under $150 <not including battery and charger, which I already had>. It's EPP foam, so it'll take more than it's share of lawn-darting before it's unflyable. Truth to tell, I don't think I can break it bad enough to make it unflyable- and if I did, it's $30 for another airframe. Foam and packing tape- what a great construction medium- nothing a little 5 minute epoxy can't fix. I'm pretty hardcore into flying now, since I don't have to keep fixing my balsa ships <truth to tell, I've even started repairing my built-up balsa handlaunch gliders>. I'm working on a way to take the MSW with me that won't freak TSA right the hell out. Maybe if I keep the transmitter in a case with my HAM license and AMA license <Aviation Modelers of America> it'll console them a bit <even though the HAM license is completely unneeded for RC>. I've seen folks in the airport with a plane strapped to their luggage, so I might be onto something there...

-now for real kicks, I ought to figure out a way to transport built-up wings to and fro so I can build planes while I'm on the road.... I've got a 10-kit backlog of airframes I need to build, just sitting in the attic.....

Only problem- my kid wants to fly, and at 3 years old there's just NO way I'm giving him the sticks yet. Maybe I'll score a spare TX off of Ebay with a trainer cord and let him play around with it once in a while at altitude so I can switch over and take command as needed. He has enough trouble holding the transmitter for ground-based RCs... and has already driven my T-Maxx full out a few times.

Oh... did I mention I'm a geek?? icon_cool.gif
