been moving stuff to the new house a bit at a time. The wife had this "brilliant" idea that I should take turns with her going to the house with stuff in my Blazer, so she doesn't have to hear Will scream about wanting to stay in the new house whenever they leave. Between that and runs to Sams, Walmart, and etc for a lawnmower and refridgerator, I am not exactly thrilled about this approach to moving.
At this rate, I think we'll be fully moved in about 6 months before the mortgage is paid off in 2034.

as long as I have a bit of say in the landscaping, that will be fine.
So far, her approach to decorating seems to be "mental institution chic".
EVERY-fucking-thing that hasn't moved has been painted white. Luckily, there is a slight- and I DO mean slight- bit of contrast here and there-- a black ceiling fan, black marble tile in the entryway, and ashwood stained knobs on the dressers.
Once we start buying "replacement furniture"- I won't mind paying-- but bet yer ass it won't be white.... <WTF is wrong with stained wood, anyway?>

-in a brief explosion of "new home owner" joy, decided I'd do something silly and run full-tilt at the open-top trailer behind my Blazer and jump up on the top rail, with great agility and style.....
....... you guessed it-- misjudged, jumped with great alacrity onto the thin air about 4" in front of the rail, and proceeded to bust my ass-- almost literally.
Just as the wife drove around the corner into our cul-de-sac

LOVELY.
to my credit, all I expressed aloud was a Cosby-esque outpouring of general rage at the whole of the Universe, and at a decibel-rating only slightly above that of a good orgasm.
-in other news: found out why the wife is so grumpy. Yup, "that time".
-in completely unrelated news, began my devious plot to kill the sorry SOB who decided it would be a good idea for my closing to be scheduled in tandem with my wife's cycle.
EDIT: ok, it wasn't my ass- it was my knee and my left palm. At least nothing is broken <a feat in itself, as I landed SQUARELY on my right shin with all my bodyweight.> I never was a good judge of anatomy

As I discovered moving into my neighborhood, and watching others move in later, any one of your selected hobbies is going to make someone think, "Oh great - one of THOSE."

I'm still not sure which one pisses off and/or confuses my neighbors more: my Jeep coughing out the oil the valve seals leaked by when I start it up, the sound of my Air Tools (mostly the impact wrench) when I'm working on said Jeep, the noise and smell of my Nitro R/C car hauling ass up and down the alley, seeing sparks from when I'm using the Dremel on computer cases, or seeing me with my laptop on the tailgate of said Jeep in the garage with feet propped up and a beer in my hand while virus-scanning a friend's hard drive.

I think the new neighbors are about to get treated to all of the above, as well as the lightshow from my welding.
Soon as I get settled, I'm ALL over the front bumper, and I think I have the back bumper just about figured out, in terms of how to put a winch in it.
Yup-- that's right-- front and rear winches... just because there have been many times I could have used a pull from the rear, and it would have been LOTS of help loading several items on trailers over the months <I ended up moving my Jeep to different spots around my Blazer and trailer and using the winch to pull the axles up on the trailer. Cake! Would have been easier if the front axle had tires that would hold air.>
Plus- I got a pair of winches dirt cheap a couple months back. I'll end up going with a set on each vehicle, but there's no rush for the Blazer. Still- $250 for a winch is a steal....

overcame the waterbed problem-- by using some Felpro cork gasket sheet that I had leftover from a head rebuild on a friend's smallblock.
- and ya'll wonder why my nick is actually "MacGyver" in certain circles...

Took the cam that goes over the sealing cap, traced around it, got the calipers out and mic'ed the inner diameter of the hole, and split the difference-- then drew a line that amount inside the first circle and cut it out.
Or had I known, I could have just used a freakin' quarter to give me the size.

At the house now, filling the waterbed and will be running a late night going through the attic at the apartment in a mad whirlwind. Anything I look at more than two seconds and wonder WTF it is, or if I need it, gets tossed.
EDIT: cap... took the CAP that comes with it.....

almost done. Past time for bed <for the wife and kid, anyway>. Filling the bed with as much hot water as the heater could supply, then topping off with cold, seems to have been QUITE the minor stroke of genius, if I do say so myself.
Yeah, I know it risks kickstarting algae. That's why I put a "shock" treatment of conditioner in it after all the hot water. We'll just have to do a lot of bobbing around the bed soon, to make sure it's properly mixed-in...

-just found out that apparently one hour is not enough for the hot water heater to make more hot water.
off to find out how to adjust a hot water heater... although, to be honest, I wouldn't expect it to have caught up already.
EDIT: oh yeah-- found out why the wife has been so testy of late... <to be honest, she's NOT The PMS-ing type, and quite a sweetheart. I've just been frustrated>..
anyway-- during casual conversation, it came up that I'd called the electric and had them change the shutoff date to the 4th so we could give the old place a half-decent cleaning <mainly vacuuming the detritus that gets knocked about- packing peanut bits and so on>, since I thought it was to be shut off tomorrow.
She asked why in the world we'd want to shut it off that late, when we had to be out by the first. I reminded her, and showed her the paperwork she'd hung on the new fridge, that we don't have to be out till the 4th, as I've told her a few times.
During all this, she'd forgotten about the out-by-4th bit and thought we had to clear quarters by the first. Thus, her danr-near freaking-out behaviour.
 things always seem to get escalated when there is the slightest bit of pressure with her. She is my opposite-- not much freaks me out, as I am very laid back for the most part when it comes to stressors.

Went to work, did some ironing, did some steaming, did a show. Did a loadout. Grabbed some dinner, pcked up a few groceries.
Came home to find mom totally freaked out, since her car got smashed all to shit today because some fucking bonehead didn't realize as the FOURTH person to a 4-way stop that he should, well...STOP. Luckily, she was able to swerve left while he swerved right, so he only glanced off the right front corner of her car. But I gotta tell ya...Ford F250 vs. Toyota Corolla does NOT bode well for the Corolla. Front corner is obliterated, there's not even the housing for where the headlight should be. Hood is crimped and shoved sideways. Driver's side door catches and clunks when opened/closed. Both fenders are bent to hell and back. Only saving grace is that since it was a truck, it hit the top part instead of the radiator (or so we think, nothing appears to be leaking. It's also technically driveable (she got it home), but really...not so much. At least she's ok, if completely shaken up and pissed off.
After that, I made the seven-layer bars I'm bringing to the BBQ tomorrow, and then realized it was much too late to colour my hair so I'll have to do that tomorrow morning.
