Spent all day trying to figure out and implement a good "dialog box" that confirms leaving with out "saving" changes in a ASP.NET Web App.
Would have been a whole lot easier if I could have debugged by stepping through the code. Alas, I had to do it by logic and "print" statements alone.
Got it working on every page but one.

got motivated and cleaning up and organizing my workbench in the garage about 7pm, which lead to cleaning up more stuff IN the garage. Found out I own no less than 11 coolers. WTF?
While shuttling stuff back and forth to the storage shed in the back yard, found out that all I have to do is face away from the house and it's just like I am in the deep woods-- lots of crickets and night music, and VERY dark. I see a possibilty of pitching a tent and sleeping in the backyard very soon for my son and I. Be a good way to test the waters for taking him camping. I can hear him now:
"Shaddup, crickets!! I'm trying to slEEPPP!!"
made a late-night run to Walmart to buy a junction box, flood bulbs, and afew other things, then wired in the external motion sensor light I bought 3 weeks ago.
Found myself still up at 3am yet again. Damnit....

Came to the conclusion that my earlier "bonus" grocery shopping trip was not so much, since I once again spent another $65 there today.

Went to the bar for some flirting time...and ran into three guys who are touring with a band that played the lakeshore tonight (they're staying in town here, since the only major airport is here and they fly out tomorrow). Got deep into discussion about contracts, reputations, and the road guy perspective on our local (which it turns out is actually better than I thought, and I thought it was pretty damn good

).
Came home, can't sleep....it's 3:20am. *sigh*

Got up, made macaroni salad so the flavours can blend for dinner tonight, got the stuffing premixed and ready to go in the bird, chopped the watermelon into chunks and got it chilling, washed the potatoes while I was in the sink, did the dishes, picked up the house some.
Realized it's bloody HOT today and then remembered I hadn't done any news yet, so came in here to sit in front of the fan and slack for a bit before diving back into the housework. I am NOT complaining it's hot, just noting the fact that I'm so used to it being stupidly cold it took me by surprise.

Remembered I hadn't typed and emailed the contract notes from yesterday's meeting, so quick sat down and did that. Put away my clean laundry, scooped the cat box, dusted and vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom.
Now going to stuff the chicken and get it in the oven, along with the potatoes, so I can make it even hotter in the house.

I love summer!

Even more, I love finally getting to plan a menu and cook for a big group again!

Did some research on possible dogs and found one I think would be an excellent fit. Wrote to the people in charge of the sanctuary that I was interested in him, waiting to hear back if he's still available or not.
Thinking of what I could possibly make Josh and I for dinner tonight. I really need to clean out the fridge as well... Make room for new leftovers. I'm thinking it may be chicken and some sort of potatoes tonight. And spinach. Yum.

Everything except the bread is in the oven, and the house is perfectly clean (well, at least the public areas, my bedroom is a bit of a disaster at present). Now kicking back with a huge glass of sweet tea waiting for people to get here so I can throw some kids around.

Received a phone call from a friend...and rediscovered how glad I am that I seem to have quit smoking. The new cigarette tax went into effect today, a 75 cent per pack increase.

I think that makes them $6.50 per pack now.

-noticing it is a pretty, full moon <or damn close- haven't checked the USNO site to see if it's the actual event horizon tonight or what> for the first clear night in about a week.... ::looks out window at perfectly-circular orb- if that ain't full, I don't know what is::
- which encourages me to ... shall we say, exercise the freedom that having my OWN back yard, with 6' privacy fence and no neighbors having a line of sight into my yard, affords......
- which leads me to do an impromptu observance I haven't had occasion to do in over 6 years due to my living arrangements <apartment>, S.O <psycho-fundy ex>, et al
- which leads me to burn some papers I've been meaning to dispose of but have not yet bought a shredder <does anyone just throw personal docs unmolested in the trash anymore?>. Lighting the humidity-dampened paper resulted in a little flame which quickly extinguished, and lots of smoke. Time for an accelerant...
- which lead me first toward the gasoline I have stored in a jerry can for the lawnmower. Thinking that's a bit of overkill <and not being familiar with the vapor expansion ratio of gasoline>, I instead spy one of the 1 gallon jerry cans I put some old nitro RC racing fuel in. 35% nitromethanol but it"s been sitting for a good two years so it's probably gone dud <nitro is hygroscopic- that is, it absorbs water from the atmosphere>. No worries-- just add more to it and we'll see how she goes......
Now it should bear mentioning that this stuff is the same sort of stuff top fuel dragsters use.
- I pour in about 8 ounces of nitro <w00t!!??> and have the good sense to wipe my hands off on the paper towel lighting wick. Wad it up, light it, and toss it in the vessel....
a freagin' GEYSER of flame erupts. What with the shape of the vessel it was in, it came out like a rocket engine- no thrust to it, but a decidedly blowtorch-like quality. Then burned for a good hour straight.
Hmmm... guess that jerry can I bought to store my nitro in was a good idea after all. Will have to get the TMaxx out tomorrow after work and see how the neighbors take to a 30,000 RPM angry hornet with a megaphone and a pair of rocket-powered rollerskates....

<EDIT: what's a TMaxx?
This. Teh quick rundown: 10 pound, 1/10th scale, nitromethane powered RC truck which I've modified by porting and polishing the engine among many other things. The thing OWNS.>

Also need an implant to remind me to send birthday PMs to everyone on the other site, since I keep forgetting those, too.

Well, THAT was an adventure!

Went to my friend's apartment, which is on the 11th floor on a corner that overlooks the river where they shoot of the fireworks. Pretty neat from up there, will be even better in the fall when we're on a 15th floor deck at another friend's house.

That wasn't the adventure.
Came home, driving carefully because there are a few police officers patrolling tonight (go figure), and got all the way to my house without incident (wasn't drunk, but you never know what'll happen with other people). Upon starting to pull into my driveway, I see two naked people run in front of my car. WTF??? Near as I can tell, from the smashed down grass, they were having sex under the tree in my front yard, and I scared them away. Again... WTF?
