<begin week-and-a-half catchup mode>
Monday 12 July: flew out to Twentynine Palms, CA by way of Atlanta, LAX, Palm Springs, and a 45-minute drive into the heart of the Mojave. Flew First Class from Atlanta to LA and in true Buffett fashion, was "on his third drink before the wheels of the plane left the ground". Arrived Palm Springs about 10pm and stepped out into the night air and _literally_ felt like I was standing in front of an oven.
On flight into Palm Springs <turboprop job> notice _very_ sultry, statuesque brunette attendant after she started damn near purring the inflight brief into the intercom. Rowr!!

. Become very amused as she darn near heckled the idiot 13-year-olds in the emergency exit row:
"if you're under 15, you may not occupy an emergency exit row..... hello..... everyone, please look for the emergency exit sign. Now, if you're not 15 or older, you must move......... .......... everyone who can not drive a car, please raise your hand...... ....... ...... ....... now I am afraid." <a vague paraphrasing, but you get the idea>.
After a particularly skittish final approach and HARD, bouncing landing, she got on the intercom and thanked us:
"we at Delta Connection would like to thank you for flying with us this evening, and for participating in our bi-annual shock-testing of the landing gear.... ..... ..... the captain would like to remind you that any landing you can walk away from, is a good one"
Looks, a sultry voice, and a great sense of humor. The wife would just have to understand.

13-14 July: stand around with our collective thumbs up our nether-regions waiting for the headshed to make a decision they should have made in the last 6 months about whether or not the project could proceed. Ah, contracting.....
15-18 July: work a ridiculous schedule, approximately 60 hours in 4 days on top of the time we'd already spent. This included a 8 hour drive to and from another facility to do some work there. Luckily, I didn't have to drive.

Found a used book store on the way back, and added greatly to my Asimov and Clancy collections for the price of 4 paperbacks.
19 July: half day of busywork, followed by about 6 hours of trekking around the Joshua Tree National Monument. HIGHLY recommend Keys Point if you should ever go.
20 July: outbriefing day. Ordered to stay out of sight. Aye, sir.
21 July: back home, by way of Palm Springs, SLC, and Atlanta. First Class again! :: hic! ::

today: not much of didley. Comped out the longish days I spent in the air <due to contractual agreements with our sponsor>, took the kid to get his haircut <lest the wife scalp him with the clipper again>..... and just heard the little rogue sneak past my office and take my side of the bed. Doh!
Went to Walmart this evening and stocked up on Castrol, bought a set of cheap Sony Xplod 6.5" speakers to replace the fried rear speakers in my XJ, and bought 3 Buffett CDs <"Living and Dying in 3/4 Time","FruitCakes" <FINALLY!!>, and "Jimmy Buffett". A good day, for that alone...
