Went looking for a chair for the apartment for my computer table. I need a decent all wood one WITHOUT coasters as it is on the rug at the transition point between the "living room" and the kitchen. Not an optimal spot however excrement occurs. It is also a relative bottleneck and that is one more reason I don't want the "standard 5, 6 spoke radiating from a central vertical trunk" setup as probably at least two of the spokes would intrude into the "toe stubbing area." I already broke a toe 4 years back because a roommate left the vacuum cleaner corner sticking out into the hallway and I booted it at 3 o'clock in the morning on the way to taking a slash. I was NOT amused and told him later on that day. I knew it was broken as it swelled up to double its usual size within about half an hour and when I got up in the morning it was blue, purple and black. Taped it, iced it and off to work I went the next day. Thank God for E.S. Tylenol et al. icon_biggrin.gif

Finished taxes today-lasted for several hours unfortunately, but nearing an end!

t_b, noticed on line that wood chairs are very much alive and well! The prices ranges as you probably know, are a mix to what ever the market will bear, i.e., what people will pay. But, for a good all wood library (almost indestructible) style chair for about a $100 new. It seems that several other manufactures (with just all wood sturdy chairs) go the same in price as well. Did see many of the spoke back jobs-various styles, for about the same price, to much more. BTW, garage sales are interesting, if one has the time-all types of chairs-some in good condition, and at good prices. Avoid the chairs with wood veneer backs if you can-not cool when they start to delaminate-Ouch! Good hunting. icon_smile.gif

Ta for the info, Df. I'll hit the usual haunts, Value Village, Salvation Army and Goodwill, then work my way up to the retail stores. icon_smile.gif

ran by Lowe's to grab some hardware for the latest bike as well as a tamper bar for the driveway project. Came home, sorted away the hardware and got on the tamping of what I've already dug up and regraded 6" lower than the soon-to-be new drive surface. Threw a handful of BBs and nuts in the KLR's tank and shook it around lie an idiot for an hour, loosening up the scale and so on since the bike was stored with only about an eighth of a tank of fuel for near 6 years.

Discovered that getting said hardware out of said tank is gonna be NO fun. Did some more research and found that the POR15 company makes a kit for exactly what I am doing that chemically washes out the rust, etches the steel, and coats it with an epoxy. So I'll be doing that, shortly. Beats hell out of buying a new tank.

Arms are killing me this morning- all that lift, drop aggressive crap yesterday....

Wondering what I did with the quarters I picked up from the bank for laundry. It was then I realized that I stood there and ran a "mental tape" of what I did after coming out of the bank and had put them in the truck at the front of the console. Sure enough when I went out to the truck to look, there they were right where I "saw" them. It was because I was still half asleep when I did this that I didn't appreciate its import. Pretty funny. I wonder if that is how, in part, we remember stuff before we mess up our heads with language. <Film like sequences or pictographic images. When we were babies or as pre-language humanoids, aka cave dwellers.>

Saddened, lost a little Pionus (parrot species) after ten years-a rescue, and quite a loveable guy. He shared the cage with another partner. Vet indicated no pain-feel good about that aspect. Very draining as many know when little ones pass. Below is a picture, except this one had more of a pinkish crown-one in picture is a White Cap which survived-the other was as noted a hybrid rescue.

Have plumber doing a few jobs about the place-amazing how much work to be done. Still, most water better in the pipes than on the floor, or in the basement. Fortunately, a good an honest person. Me ... attempting to do paper work now for about a week. Hmmm .... perhaps a few hours of paper and then a little TV, and a brew. Checked out BTW, Children of Men ... forget it, another gloom and doom flick-not worth your time! thumbdown.gif

burned up another transmission in the Blazer Friday (what I get for not fixing that damned leak!)

I have a ready spare- going to put it in my buddy's shop this week for rebuild. Then I'll pull the transmission AND trans-case when I get it back in a few weeks, bolt the transfer case to the new transmission where I can set the proper torque on all fasteners, and put the whole transfer/transmission pack back in as an assembly.

doing otherwise-- trying to just get by with removing the transmission- is what lead to this one burning up. Lesson learned-- easier to spend the extra effort (and perhaps extra money for another jack) than to do it over. I knew this, of course, but was trying to save money. 3 years off a $400 transmission (bought used from a friend)- not bad, still and all.

Will shortly be winning the head I need for the KLR I just bought. Then I'll ship my cylinder off to Schnitz Racing, have them punch it out and install the 685cc kit, and should be riding this thing by May. W00t!

Also, just about ready to start forming up the first pour for the driveway. I've got it excavated pretty much-- just need to tamp it some more, have a truckload of slag delivered and level out the area, and then form it and pour it. Then a pretty quick pour for the second area, and my projects will have someplace they can start rolling. icon_smile.gif

Ha ha ha, sorry Snuffy but it is a logical progression to Snuffy. Snuffles, that is. As to Nuffink, that is the East End (Cockney) London English corruption of "nothing" into their argot/patois/local lingo. Their language and rhyming slang is a real joy to behold. icon_biggrin.gif wheeeeeh.gif naughty.gif

speaking of jeeps....

pretty sure I just put the last nail in the coffin of mine's engine. Oil pressure starts out at about 60psi, then goes rapidly to 5 and stays there...

shocking.gif

coupled with the trans of the Blazer going out last week. Yeah. LOVELY.

Actually not a huge deal- I'm taking the transmission to the rebuilder tomorrow, should have it back in a couple weeks. meantime I'll ride the bike to work. Which means I need to stop at Wally World tonight and buy a drybag for my laptop and a change of clothes, and a bright yellow rainsuit so these freakin' idiots around here can see me when it's raining.

As for the jeep- -5 years on a $300 junkyard engine that all I did was put a rear main and oil in... can't really complain. I was planning on going diesel anyway- this just expedites the process. I have a tranny for it, and as soon as Buffalo NY thaws, I'll have a motor as well. Meantime- time to get turnin' and burnin' on that driveway project.

but yeah-- I would be deeply fornicated if I hadn't bought and learned to ride the motorbike last year. icon_wink.gif
