rode to work on my bike. in the rain. not a huge deal, as I'd thought ahead for a change and bought a drybag. Also had a ful change of clothes in said drybag just in case my rainsuit didn't do it's job completely. Took my dinner hour and ran to walmart and picked up a second drybag for clothes and etc. surfed the web looking for a better tiedown system than the traditional bungee setup everyone uses. Considered taking a nap- work is that dead.... hell, if I was in the medical field I'd probably be told to go take a nap at this point!

had an uneventful ride in the rain on my bike- actually, a few of them.
Not bad, but I don't want to be on two wheels when the monsoon season starts. Gotta get off me arse tomorrow and get that tranny taken in, as well as go to the DMV and register my new(er) bike (the KLR), drop by the kiddo's school tomorrow (they're having a Field Day and parents are welcome- and he'll get a kick out of the attention he'll get when daddy shows up on a motorcycle

)
Put the KLR on my insurance last night. Full coverage, an extra $15 a year.
Snuffy
Apr 12 2007, 02:19 AM
Just $15/year. not bad at all! mine is 300/year but im a little younger than you so lol
burntkat
Apr 12 2007, 03:24 AM
well, read carefully-- the second bike was $15/year more. Of course there's a multiple bike discount that applies. My 650r is running me about $500/year. Somewhat ridiculous as the bike is $6200 new, but I do have an at fault accident just shy of 3 years ago (in my jeep) that will make my insurance drop about 20% next go-round, and since I'm in the "crotch rocket" category in the insurance co's eyes, the rates are higher.
Which is absolute bollux, as this is a parallel twin 70HP bike, more along the lines of a UJM than a 120HP supersport.
Personally, I'll never own a bike with more than two cylinders. Certainly won't be owning a supersport.

ran some numbers (gotta love Progressive.com) and found if I drop the 650R off my policy (ie: get rid of the bike) and keep full coverage on just the KLR, my premium goes down to $125/year from the $554/year it is presently at.
Hmmmm....... what if I traded the 650R in on a used V-strom touring bike, I wonder....

hmmm... V-strom and KLR ends up at $364 for both. a $200 decrease-- and that's still with an accident on my record till this June.....

Apr 12 2007, 04:41 AM
Thats a hell of a savings!!! I had State Farm for about 4 years and was paying $1200/year for the TJ and $700/year for the Fatboy so i looked around and went with Farmers and im down to $600/year for the TJ and $300/year for the fatboy. But i wanna sell the fatboy and get either a dyna or a fxr, but im still up in the air
burntkat
Apr 12 2007, 05:03 AM
Well I also ran numbers if I traded the 650r in on a used Kawa Meanstreak (basically, "insert expensive 3 year-old cruiser here")
That takes me down to something like $330/year for the KLR and the cruiser, full coverage. Course, I'll lose a bit of value on the tradein of the 650r, but a V-strom or a cruiser really suits me better than a sport-type-bike, honestly. And there's no law says you can't be an ATGATT rider on any bike.
Hmmm... might have to see if I can't find a used 'Strom that suits my fancy, or a cruiser.
Come to think of it, my rates should be even lower come time to re-up for insurance-- since my credit rating has increased by nearly 70 points in the last year. I kick ass.

hmmm.. and a 2004 V-strom books out at roughly a grand less than I could expect to get for my bike... this IS getting interesting...

SG, like to collect kitchen blades-mainly steel, and not stainless. It would be fun to start making your own! Need a good grinder, and polishing head. You can get all the metal you want from junk yards to practice on. Read a few how to books, and get a few ideas of how it is done-not a big deal. You can get the metal already tempered, so no heat treating problems-unless you take the temper out grinding away. Df.

Not today, but I've not been here since... Monday I bought an emerald green 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix in mint condition.
Today I learned two things about it: The key (I only have one) has a chip in it so I have to pay a dealer $75 to get another one made; and it goes REALLY fast in a VERY short amount of time. I'm not used to getting up to 80mph before I reach the end of the freeway entrance ramp.

Woot Post 1000!

So we ran a PFT (Physical Fitness Test) today. I did ok, got my 100 crunches in less than 2 mins, did 17 pull-ups and ran my 3mile in 21.43 which im not all that happy with but hey. Last run time was 19.13!! But my problem is we have Marines who are reservist that cant pass a pft. Its not that hard to keep yourself in shape. You have to do a minimum of 2 pull-ups 54 crunches and be able to run 3 miles in under 29.30 mins. this really isnt all that freaking hard. but we have Marines who cant do 1 pull up and do 50 crunches and fall out of the run.

i dont get it.. Im a twice wounded combat vet and collect 25% disability from the government and i still am able to get a first class pft..
