- having covered for one of my team this week (he's in the hospital, having had an "accident" which he mysteriously won't tell anyone about, and is to be in hospital for at least a week- I am afraid I fear the worst of this "accident"), worked till 0100 Saturday, came home, in bed about 0500, slept till 1000.

-farted about the house for a bit. Went and got new brake pads and rotors for the wife's jeep, bought Transformers for the kiddo, header wrap for the Blazer, and misc other stuff.

- came home, wrapped the crossover pipe. Not bad- tip- if you ever have to do this, 1) wear surgical gloves!! 2)soak the wrap in water-- allows you to get a MUCH better wrap. Also, might wanna tie one end to something solid so you can really torque down on the wrap

-went grocery shopping. Kinda on an asian kick lately- doing up some stirfry veggies, maybe some chicken in them, possibly some shrimp if my connection comes through. (fresh off the boat, was swimming this evening)

-tried out the "Badge Magic" double-stick tape for my son's Cub Scout uniform. Pfeh- shit is horrid. Doesn't stick, ruins your scissors, and gums up the needle when you end up going ahead and sewing the badges on). Just got finished sewing the badges on his patrol shirt. Yes, I am a male who has his own sewing machine. STFU. icon_smile.gif

Wasn't the best of jobs- still having trouble geting the tension set properly on the bobbin. but I believe the problems I had were mostly because of the Bade Magic shit grabbing the needle as it gummed it up (I had to clean the needle each time I changed thread or direction). Besides, the bad side is on the inside of his shirt, the outside looks good-- you have to realy look for the stitches- the casual look or even a full on inspection wouldn't give a care. At any damned rate-- I used to do all my own sewing on my BDU's, and I never had a problem with them eithe rin field or garrison service- and this job was MUCH better quality than that was.

-in full fuckoff mode now. Yes, it is 0300. Kicking back with a Heffeweissen and gonna watch a couple hitchcock flicks till morning, then get back to work on the Blaze. Hmm.. gotta rip a copy of a DVD then take it back to BlockBastard.....

Just finished watching Evil Dead. I dont know if im going to watch the second or just save it for another night.

bk, I've been sewing for quite a while. Sorry I don't have any picture, but I used to make leather pillows, leather vests, leather jackets and coats. I'm actually pretty decent at it. Learning sewing is a wise and practical move for guys to make. You can't count on women to know how to sew or want to do it for you. Each person must/should be responsible and capable for themselves. Although I don't own my own sewing machine, if I had the money, I definitely would. Kudos to you for stepping up and saying so. yes.gif

exactly my thoughts on the matter. It's the whole "ingrained, Boy Scout, self-sufficiency" sorta thing...

Never done any largescale leatherwork. If I had a machine that would go through the stuff I'd give it a shot. My machine is just a little $70 job from Walmart. Just enough to do the job with a few extra features thrown in.
the_burner
bk, it has more to do with the needles than the machine. Of course if the drive is slipping and you're trying thick leather, fageddaboutit. Sharp high end leather needles work like a charm. Using very good leather, such as Napa Lambskin or Nubuck leather are very nice and "easy" to work with. Easy being a relative term. Measure three times and sew once as there is no forgiveness with leather. EVER! You sew in the wrong spot and you're screwed big time. Slowly slowly catchy monkey.

as for patches , i apply a thin layer of hot glue to the back , let cool , postion where you want and from the BACK side of fabric iron with a hot iron , ta da , perfict every time
burntkat
eh, cool trick Pappy. I was wondering about hot glue but figured it wouldn't work in the conventional application method...
the_burner
Indeed it is a great trick.

I guess I come by the sewing naturally. LOL. Mother's side of the family, the name Taylor figures prominently. Go figure. The irony is that of us three current generation, of my two sisters and I, I am the best taylor by far. I was annoited with this moniker by one of my mother's best friends who was the head seamstress for 25 years at T.E. Eaton Co., a former huge chain of stores, like Sears, J C Penny et al., here in Canada. I figure I got it from both sides: the engineers on my father's side and the creative types on my mother's side. Just a fluke and lucky, I guess. Of course we won't mention the pirate, drunks or other assorted scoundrels in the ancestral closet. wheeeeeh.gif tongue_smilie.gif hysterical.gif
burntkat
no judgement from me on the scoundrels. I have more than a few in my family history that are still burning oxygen.

One doesn't get to choose their genetic relatives and progenitors. One does, however, get to choose one's friends. Yeah, I have a few relatives that I would like to not to admit that are related to my by genetics, but, they are who they are and they have made their choices; good or bad. Just as I have. icon_smile.gif

Put up some new lights on the jeep, thinking about getting a new winch. The new Warn with the air compressor on it. Any input.

I do NOT machine sew. However, if you hand me a needle and thread I can put most people's machine-sewn items to shame (I've got those perfect little tiny almost invisible stitches down pat). icon_biggrin.gif

Today I was supposed to work 8am to 5pm or 7pm, but we outdid ourselves and were finished with the job at 1pm. So...less money, but I get a nap this afternoon, so it's all good.

However, I came home to find out there are six guys in my yard cutting down trees and grinding them and their stumps. Something my mother might have mentioned before I left this morning. I had to park in the front yard (away from one of the trees that are coming down) and had to try to catch their attention so they could shut down the chipper, which is parked across the driveway (thus why I could not park in my spot) and angled between the house and garage.

I'm hoping they'll be done soon, I was truly looking forward to napping. icon_cry.gif

I am supposed to pour concrete today but it has rained the last few days. It is not suposed to rain today but it might be too wet for the big truck to come across my land. I hope not. I want to get this project finished. I'll know by noon.

What's this one about Doc? You already did the garage. Is this a new driveway pad or something in the backyard or an extension to an existing structure?

Finished up with painting deck and stairs. Hope to test deck this week end if ash has stopped falling-pasta becomes a little difficult to eat with a ash topping-still good insulation.

Did some minor repairs on my cars. Finally changed the oil in the TJ. Only been 9100 miles. I have an old 87' Cherokee changed the shocks and put a new track bar on it. Finally feel like i got something accomplished.

Well, the USN has offered me a better job then to be a CB: Electrician (CE)....I am now a Navy Electrician's Mate (EM)...which instead of working on the commercial end of things such as building wiring and replacing outlets...I am now working on the industrial end of things fixing generators and basically working with anything you'll find at a power plant....I figure better chance to see some sights, and when...if I get out of the Navy, I have a much better chance then just being an "electrician"...but can be a supervisor at a power plant and make a little more money... dance.gif dance.gif

here's a description of what I'll be doing

The duties performed by Electrician Mate's include: installing power and lighting circuits; repairing distribution circuits; running wiring for lights and other equipment; maintaining operating efficiency of distribution panels, switches, switchboards, controllers, voltage regulators, current transformers and voltage transformers; maintaining operating efficiency of electric motors; repairing electrical equipment and appliances; installing and maintaining storage batteries; inspecting, maintaining, testing and repairing electric power equipment; maintenance and repair of shipboard elevator systems; interpreting electrical sketches, diagrams and blueprints. Maintenance and repair of various propulsion and auxiliary control consoles; connecting electric power machinery and electric power equipment

BYAAAH.

Any time buddy!

Bought an HD DVD drive today! Wow the difference is amazing!
Dragonfly
Why did you go HD DVD instead of Blu-ray? Just curious, because looking for a machine now too-attempting to wait to see who the champ may be-however, that may not be my lifetime. icon_smile.gif

Well its the HD DvD drive for the XBOX 360. It was $179 and came with the first season of Heroes on HD and 5 HD dvd's all for free. That and the fact that Fox is going Blue Ray exclusive and is having problems with their disc, where they only are working in very very few players, and in a press release they said that the disc that are bought and dont work in most players... well thats not their problem. I also believe that HD is going to win the format war.

Starting off with more paper work in the vain attempt to cool it later in the day! Fires (ash fallout) out this way are causing nose bleed in people-(notice students with this problem, and advise them to stay indoors, or do masks) 40/50 miles away from the fires. Seem to be catching some fire starters-about 6/7 this way, and one shot and killed running from an officer-who apparently is a good shot ... note, please sent officer, and family off for a great vacation as a reward nailing this nogoodnick. thumbup1.gif

I can't believe people would intentionally set fires during this disaster. Unless the person was simple minded/insane, they should be shot. That is completely soul-less.
Snuffy
I couldn't agree with you more! I've been up in Tahoe since 2000. And over the years there is always one really bad fire that was started by some asshole doing something stupid. Personally i think that if the person is caught they should be shot!

Stayed in last night and watched t.v.. It was close enough to a full moon for the "itch" in my blood to almost get me to dandify myself up and go out looking for a nice woman. I had a glass of milk, watched football and read a good book instead. Far cheaper and no hangover in the head or walletski today either. No regrets too. icon_biggrin.gif icon_wink.gif
