Dragged myself out of bed at noon after having gotten to sleep at 9:30am because mom said I had to be home by 12:30 to bring groceries in from the car. She arrived home at 2:45.
Called the boy at 3:00 to make sure he was up, then picked him up at 3:30 and ran a whole pile of errands. Dropped him off at his "office" Christmas party (sounds like it's a good one...he works at a local nightclub), then came home and made dinner, marinated cheese (trust me, it's excellent) for Saturday, bread, and two kinds of cookies. Now about to round up a variety platter of baked goods and head to the bar to meet the boy.

Baking: gingerbread, two more kinds of cookies, and two pies.
Finally warmed up enough to get the last bit of ice off the porch with a lot of determination and icemelt stuff.
Dishes several times, as I have limited mixing bowls and measuring cups.
Hauled all the empty christmas boxes to the basement.
Cleaned the house, then put all the presents mom's giving to people under the tree for her (she's walking great with a cane now, but still needs my help for some stuff).
Christmas is at our house tomorrow. With any luck at all, I won't spend most of the day in tears.

Helped set-up an outside light-replaced switch-found that outside light sensor was not working properly-took it off, now a manual task - until, perhaps a timer-or, another sensor! Was a go-for for a friend that is into do juice .... did it in the past-prefer, another on the latter now!

Got up early for a 9:00AM rehearsal for the Annual Tuba Christmas concert. It was on the steps of San Angelo City Hall, and it was a total blast. It's Tubas and Euphoniums only, and we play a bunch of Christmas tunes arranged for our low-brass instruments. The last time I played the Tuba Christmas gig was while I was in high school at Crossroads Mall in SLC. It was the coolest thing in the world to me back then, and today was a close second.
The Euphoniums were actually outnumbered by Tubas today, by more than 2 to 1. 17 Tuba players showed up along with 7 Euphoniums... which is just about right, if you ask me.

I didn't get to play last year, because I was on my way back from D.C., and missed the gig by about 2 hours. Bummer. But, I'm hooked once again, and will be playing this gig every chance I get in the future.
http://www.tubachristmas.com Check the dates for your local performances (if you're interested in that sort of thing).

Of course, she's had time to use HER present.

Since it is boxing day, it is NOT snowing and I have no social obligations 'til later, I have made time to play with Shady. She is such a joy and who says pets/animals don't have a sense of humour? They choose to hang with us humans. That has to display to any rational entity a sense of love, empathy and humour.

My sisters, my cousins, my aunt's and uncle all saw pictures of Shady for the first time (my Mom is the only family member other than me that has seen Shady "in person") and they all cooed, oohed and aahed over her picture. She is that sweet looking. Of course she is a real rascal in real life, however she is a wonderful companion and friend and I am very lucky and blessed to share my home with her.

all sorts of stuff of late. Nice christmas, kiddo now has a Bionicle army (and I'm NOT exagerating- ok, maybe a little bit-- but he's literally got at least a platoon of the buggers now.....)
worked Yule eve and day, 12's both days. 8-10 hour days since, got tomorrow off and then 0800-2000 Sunday and back at it at 0600 Monday. Teh suck!!
Bought a rifle today. 1941 vintage Lee-Enfield sniper rifle which seems to have seen service in at least WW2. Good condition, decent scope on it-- will suit my purposes just fine.
(no, I'm NOT looking for a book repository, or a belltower. I'm gonna thin the deer population a bit in the coming year, with any luck).
For $300, I could NOT pass it up. The .303 British round is about the same size as a 7.62NATO and only gives up a little bit to the 308. Lee-Enfields have seen much hunting service in the world, both of people when absolutely necessary and large animals. I'll be using it for the latter- it'll put down any large lump of protein in North America at upwards of 300 yards, given the right (soft-nosed) round.
Looking at reloading gear now. The Lee Hand Reloading Press for $30 new +25 per set of dies is looking awful hard to beat. I could get into reloading for about $60 startup cost for a basic setup (no tumbler, clean and inspect pick-ups and the brass I've gathered, buy powder and ball locally). I've gone through that much in ammo just in the last 3 trips to the range at factory prices.....
