Filled up car, did a little food shopping, will cool it for the next couple of days-start work in earnest on Monday until July.
Rain this part abated somewhat, snow covered several feet of mountains-although, we are still in a water shortage. Unfortunately, there are very few water containment facilities to retain all the water-so, it goes off to the sea? Hmmm .... something curious here, especially in a state that prides itself on being greenified, and environmentally friendly-like saving tin chewing gum wraps, etc. !

It was a rough day for Stark County 6th grade basketball. My daughter's team went 1-2 and didn't fair well in a tourney. My team had our first loss, but 4-1 is still a nice start.

Up until almost 5:30am with the boy, worked 8-5 at our local professional ballet company's new theatre loading in a show. Dinner's on the stove, then I'm headed straight to bed. I think I got old...I can't stay up all night and then work all day without paying for it any more.

I got lectured by an usher leaving the theatre just now!

Apparently, we're not supposed to cut through the lobby to leave when the lobby is open (leaving us to cut through when it is, what, locked up?). Of course, I've been cutting through the lobby for approximately 14 years, but whatever. New rule, I guess. Made me giggle, especially when she was going to make me turn back around and walk all the way back through to exit via the stage door (I got stopped at the last door before the employee exit).
Home now for a couple of hours, then back to do another three loads of laundry and pack it up, then off to the bar with the boy to watch the second half of the game.

Sorry Bart I was on overdrive there. And a lack of sleep to boot. The opening in the furnace where the hot air goes in are called tuyeres and they are a water cooled replaceable 500 lb copper insert, so to speak. And if the burn a hole in them you shut the furnace down and replace it or them. Very hot, labor intensive stuff. Especially if you have other cooling leaking ( stack ) plates. And those are more permanent copper cooling units, that cool the brick in the furnace. When you have water going into these machines it creates hydrogen gas and that was what was coming out in our work area.. We found and replaced the tuyere and bypassed the two plates. So all is well again

I'll find a couple of pics and post them in the picture forum of some stuff at work.

No need to apologize MBF but thanks for your humility. I caught your other post about the possible hydrogen explosion. That definitely looked very violent. Thanks for the explanation and pics. Yes they do, we arcelor/mittal are a union shop. So there is a apprecticeship for skilled trades. The furnace work is condidered non-skilled (lol). So you learn on the job. I'm a salaried supervisor, but in our department we do a ton of physical work as needed. It's one of those " this is the way we've always did it " kind of thing. I've been there 37 years, thru 4 different companies and the work/job is basically still the same. It's clearly a dying craft, there were approx. 150 of these things running in 1975- 1980. And probably 30 -35 now. Not real sure of the numbers, but pretty close.
I'm sure I bored you enough
Dragonfly
Feb 14 2008, 02:52 PM
No, not bored at all! On the contrary, presently, and for the last three and a half decades, work with many people on a daily basis, and review much of what you, and various industries do today in the work place. This information is invaluable, especially for those that study the workplace, and management process. knowledge that you posses may be difficult to outsource. Not surprised (to some extent) about the non-skilled label you noted-from my point of view quite problematic, i.e., with out proper supervision, seems that accidents may be more the norm than not ... astounding indeed. Thanks for the response.

Dan, apparently Australian actor Trevor Goddard died, see below:
"JAG" Actor Found Dead, Overdose Suspected
By Kit Bowen | Tuesday, June 10, 2003
HOLLYWOOD - Australian actor Trevor Goddard, who played the recurring role role of Lt. Mic Brumby on the hit CBS series JAG, was found dead in his North Hollywood home Sunday from an apparent drug overdose, Reuters reports.
Los Angeles County coroner's office spokesman Craig Harvey told Reuters the initial investigation pointed to a possible suicide from an overdose of "illicit, illegal" drugs. Several notes written to one of Goddard's friends were found in the actor's home. Harvey added, however, "There was nothing in the notes indicating that he meant to take his life."
Reuters reports Goddard's girlfriend discovered his body lying on the bed around noon on Sunday. Investigators think Goddard died sometime after 9 p.m. on Saturday after having a telephone conversation with a friend from his home, Harvey told Reuters. An autopsy is set for Tuesday.
A former professional boxer, Goddard was "discovered" while competing at a boxing match and asked to appear in a series of beer commercials, according to his Web site. Besides his role on JAG, Goddard's other credits included Mortal Kombat and the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.

Babysat the Art Gallery for about 3 hours during 'my turn' as a member. The San Angelo Art Club's Kendall Gallery is open on the weekend for several hours each day to allow people to view the works, as well as members to come in and paint with friends during the morning hours.
Not a soul dropped by for the whole 3 hours I was there. Which is fine with me - makes a dull afternoon of gallery-sitting a nice prospect. Especially when you take your laptop and load up an old favorite game (Re-Volt).

I thought I would have the soft touch "spreading the sand and ice melt" job yesterday for about 3 hours. WRONG! Six and a half hours of plowing thru rain laden, ice crusted snow. Shit! (Pardon my French.) I only managed to do the condos (approx 40 units) so I have the two houses left to do today. Plus, it snowed overnight. Yippe yahoo and yeehaw. LOL. Plus my boss sent me an email to check some other crew's properties, with the unsaid statement of "if not done, do those." Fuck that. If those lazy cocksuckers didn't go out yesterday, fuck them and fuck my boss. I've had it with working with lazy bastards. Their property, their responsibility. My boss is in Minniapolis visiting his girlfriend. Tough shit for them all. I checked other properties yesterday and four of them hadn't been done. If my boss gets in shit, well, that's too damn bad. If the crews get in shit, too fucking bad also. Pay attention, do your work, no problems. I ain't responsible for anyone else, just me. So screw 'em.
