Went to the Air Base and was surprised that my CAC card will indeed get me into the Services areas with no problems. Went to the shopette and even was able to buy some stuff there. Hmm... methinks it miht be time to start shopping for groceries at the BX. Dare I be so bold?
Stopped by the Fitness Center to see if I could use that. No worries. Flirtatious chica at the front desk said they have no problems at all with DoD guys using it- so I've no excuse, and it looks like lots of fun as well.. especially racquetball. Gonna try to make Bill <Jeeper buddy of mine> eat that damned ball

Went to the Hobby Shop after having to run home and get the tube of RTV I forgot, and got my rig up on the lift. Asked what time they close- "5:30, but ya gotta be out of here at 5". Hmmm.. not so sure I can finish this in that time.. backed her off and took her home, where I started tearing everything apart in preparation to do the oil pan gasket and <AGAIN, even though it doesn't need it- because I have to do the -> Rear Main Seal. Idiot here talked myself out of doing the RMS when I had eveything apart doing the OP gasket. Dumb.
While doing the prep, it dawned on me that I should be able to easily do my solid front axle swap in one of the exterior bays, by renting it for the week or so. MUCH cheaper than renting an electric-equipped storage facility at probably $200/month, since it's like $5 a day at max if it's actually stored in the bay. Plus, during the times I am able to roll the vehicle around <while taking out the front chunk, for example> I can roll the vehicle to an outside storage facility for about $5/week. Given that I am taking 2 weeks off in May and the base is right around the corner from my place <and has welders, cutters, etc right there>, I should have a much easier go of this.
Went to respool my winch, and just about 2' shy of getting all the line back on, the damn motor gave up the ghost...
.. went and traded it in for the new improved model <it's good to know the guys there well> and installed it. Got a new set of solenoids, hawse fairlead, 100' of 3/8" wire rope, safety hook, and control out of the deal. Wasted an hour trying to figure out how to relocate the solenoids under the hood. Think I will just buy a pair of Ford starter solenoids and make my own setup. Handy little buggers, those....
.. all of which got completely in the way of doing my driving lights and the rest of the electrical mods I wanted to do. Not to mention, helping install the lift on a friend's 95 YJ... and going wheeling tomorrow is more or less out of the question since my rig is in pieces.
Asked the wife if she'd go if I got it back together- she wouldn't mind at all, but the passenger's seat is broken <cheap contrcution from the factory>. Which ended up being her blessing to put new seats in my rig! I have a friend who's looking for the seats he took out of his 89 CRX Si- basically Recaros, and SUPER comfy and grippy!!
Ohyeah- and bought Jimmy Buffett concert ticket!! Sure, I'm in the nosebleed seats since I didn't hit them right when they opened- but I'm THERE, dude!
