Hello,
It's been awhile since I've tried to access its setup menu so I hope this isn't too stupid, but I gone through the pdf and still haven't found the answer. On the router I keep getting a 401 Unauthorized message. I'm using the default IP of 192.168.254.254. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Moved to a more appropriate location.

Most routers use the default setup address of 192.186.1.1 that's if you want to get in to make changes on the router. I would suggest that if everything's working fine, leave it alone.

Hello cswchan,
Thanks for responding. I tried that address, but it didn't work. According to Speedstream's documentation the
http://192.168.254.254 is the default.

Is it prompting you for a username and password? If you typed them in according to the documentation, and it still doesn't work, try resetting the router to the defaults. Not sure on that make and model, but mine is reset by powering it off, then while depressing the reset botton, power it back on, and continue to hold the reset for 5 seconds.

Hi AceHigh,
Thank you as well for responding. I have reset the router and also turned it off and on repeatedly. This time I reset it(while on) for 5 seconds and see the status light go of and on steady like the documentation says it should, but still get the "401 UnAuthorized" msg. The docs don't list a starting html to go to so I don't think that's the problem. The router function otherwise. Thanks again.

If it's not prompting for a username and password, then it will indeed give you a "401 UnAuthorized" msg.

there is no prompt it goes straight to the error msg. Since the router is working I think it's something I'm overlooking. I haven't tried to get into setup in about a year. I keep going through its pdf without getting any results.

I went and tried the tip of launching in a new process to clear the cache, but no change.

In IE, go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click custom level, scroll down, select prompt for username/password.

One little option box--that's usually all it is. THANKS AceHigh! It worked. Have a good one.
