Hey guys, I just got myself a GeForce FX 5200 on christmas, and I was extremely excited to put it in... However, once it was in... it wasn't all I thought it would be... It lags the keyboard and sometimes the mouse in lowest GFX in Desert Combat. It shouldnt be bottle-necked because I have a P4 and 80GB HDD + 256 mb memory... Anyone know how to fix this? It seems to do it only when AA + Filtering is on (even at 2x each) but in BF1942, AA and Filtering are both off entirely... yet it still gives that to me... someone plz help...

The 5200 is a lower end card, and has a rough time with a lot of the newer games. But let's try stuff before jumping to conclusions. What did you have before? ATi/nVidia? You have the latest dets? Fresh or old format?
Also, full system specs please.

It's an older format, had to format way back in something like oct. or nov.
Latest dets? as in drivers? then yes, I check every few weeks.
My system specs are:

First annhilate the onboard graphics in the BIOS. Shut them off and un-install them in WINDOWS. That will help this matter a bit, What resoultions are you using?

umm... from 640x480 to 1280x1024(using now)

That card isn't very powerful.. You may need to lower details and lower the resolution, unless I'm mis-understanding the problem. Try doing those.

Like I said, the GFX is already on it's lowest setting, It seems to only lag in Diablo 2 and Desert Combat (Sometimes in Tribes 2, but only when the construction is extensive). Also, people on tribes 2 said that it's bad because it has a weird rendering engine...

Oh I see. Well, I'm not sure. Diablo 2 is a rediculous game too. Even when I had a 9800NP in it seemed to find a way to lag here and there. Shut off shadows and stuff in D2, helps a little. Maybe try and find the best drivers for that card... hmm.. lemme think about it for a while longer.

Thing is, when I compare my GeForce 4 MX 440, it runs Diablo 2 without a hint of lag, and this is on a Windows 98 SE, 512 MB, Celeron 1.3GHz computer... Whereas the GeForce FX 5200 is running at 8 FPS with map on, and 22 without it. I found this strange, because it beats the GF4 computer by almost 2x over, except the memory... that may be it, because with the GeForce 4 MX 440 in this computer, Diablo 2 STILL lags, and then the FX works fine. Here's a comparison beween the 2:

nah, I *almost* fixed it, theres no more keyboard/mouse lag anymore, I went into the BIOS and switched the startup video to AGP, it WAS on PCI. Now that fixed 1/3 the problem, then I overclocked the FX to 325 core 400 mem and tweaked it to a FX 5200 Ultra. There went 2/3 the problem, now the last 1/3, there is still small lag spikes every minute or two... they're not bad, but It gets bad when your in mid-flight and lag.

I don't know. Mess with settings. Turn on/off fastwrites, see if that helps. Install drivers, try different drivers. I'v been kinda.. blah all night sorry about not responding.

maybe, but my computer's been having lag spikes in all the games, sometimes even outside of games... I'm thinking it may be memory... lol, but when I went to try to put more memory into this one, It wouldnt fit, I tried 3 different sticks, two larger ones, one 256, the other 128, both PC133 (the same kind this ones uses), they wouldnt go in, not wanting to break anything, I wasnt about to force them... so I tried the smaller stick, also 128, but PC100, ALSO didnt fit... I said "what the hell?" so I took out the stick already installed, when I saw the pin arrangement I just said "D'OH!" lucky for me I didnt force the sticks, because the pin arrangement was completely different...

I have a P4 and 80GB HDD + 256 mb memory
Another 256 will help your games a lot.

but the point of this is to adjust settings so it doesnt lag. I know more memory will help the games (know it from experience with my Celeron computer). However, I'm looking for a free, overclocking solution.

Well, the problem is solved now, It lags a bit still but AA and AF work properly now. All i had to do is switch the BIOS to use the AGP as the primary card.
