Hey long time reader first time poster.

Ok heres my problem i have just had my dsl upgraded with it came 2 static ips. I want to have 1 machine with its own ip (for my wife) then on the other ip my pc perhaps a web server etc also i want to be able to share files etc i was using a switch before and just sharing through my old game server. Cash is a bit tight at the mo so wont really be able to buy any new parts to get it running, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well a router would be the best choice
and they don't get much cheaper than this
Uniden 4-port Cable/DSL ROuter for $0 after rebate
I have no experince with this model
but it should be able to do what you need

Just set the 2 static IPs in the 2 machines. You will need to know the DSN addresses though, and the default gateway. Your ISP should be able to help you there since they gave you 2 static IPs.

if you have two computers and two ip:s, why dont you just use your switch?

the other cheaper choice would be to go modem>switch> her box (ip#1)and one of your boxes(ip#2) and use a soft proxy like like this free one from ANALOGX for any other computers

I used it, simple, easy setup, and free

thanx will give it a try sharing files straight from the switch i thought that would leave me network open to all nastys its why i havent done so yet, still will give it a whirl.
