Tonight I went for Chinese (Cantonese) at a local restaurant called Top Gun.
This is what we had, in order (links to pics of what I actually ate):
1.
Lobster sashimi - Okay, so that wasn't quite Chinese, but the lobster was very fresh. The legs were still moving. (FYI: Sashimi = raw)
2.
Sashimi: Salmon, tuna, and hamachi - Once again, not Chinese...
3.
Rock salt lobster - The rest of the lobster that wasn't eaten as sashimi was fried. I think it was supposed to be spicy as well, but it was just kind of bland.
4.
Roasted squab - Crispy skin...so greasy.
4a. Conpoy Potage (aka soup). Forgot to take photo.
5.
Gai lan stirfry - Gai lan (aka Chinese broccoli) stirfried with fish paste and pork (pork not shown)
6.
Black cod - With garlic on top.
7.
Fried rice - I forget the name of the fried rice, but it had ginger, crab, gai lan, and egg.
8.
Sweet soup - I forget the name of this as well, but it had dates, lotus seeds, and ... I think they called it essence of frog?? It's nice and slimy

Tonight I went for some all-you-can eat at some chintzy Cantonese restaurant called Oriental Delight. Horrible name but they're pretty classy. You order as much as you want from the menu!!
This is what we ordered. I didn't take any pics of the lamb. Everyone just ate a little bit of each.
1.
Shark's fin soup - broth with shark's fin, bok choy, and ham
2.
Abalone - abalone is in the bottom right. Served with broccoli, Chinese mushroom, and a duck's foot
3.
Ostrich - stir fried with celery
4.
Prawn salad - with cantelope, honeydew, potato (bleh), and Japanese mayonnaise
5.
Crab claw - dipped with sweet and sour sauce. It's a crab claw with breaded shrimp (paste).
6.
Pomelo peel - with spinach and duck's feet
7.
Sea cucumber - on a bed of spinach
8.
Roast pork 9.
Squash - braised with dried scallops
10.
Squid - stir fried with snow peas
11.
Egg - Seafood with egg wrapped in egg white and steamed
12.
Cold platter - jellyfish in the top left corner, pork on the left, and pig's ear on the right
13.
Eel14.
Pea sprouts - stirfried with mushrooms
15.
Crab - with a green onion and onion sauce
16.
Oyster - steamed with black bean sauce
17.

Last night I went to
Bimini's Tap House to watch the Canucks game and do some dancing.
I started with a (Canadian)
Shirley Temple. It was ... different.
Then we shared some
nachos and some
edamame (soybeans).
I had some soho salmon for dinner that came on a bed of grilled vegetables and a couple of small baked pototos with sour cream and bacon.
The only good thing was the soybeans.

Birthday dinner Saturday with mom. Went to Logan's (which is a chain here, dunno where else, but I'll assume in the south).
Pitchers of sweet tea (YES, sweet tea served in Michigan!!!).
Appetizer onion petals with some kind of spicy dipping sauce, along with their most excellent dinner rolls (fresh made, just a hint of sugar) with whipped real butter.
12-oz. prime rib, rare (like there's another way to order it), just enough fat marbled through to give it excellent taste, so tender I could cut it with my fork. Loaded baked potato on the side (crumbled bacon, cheddar, monterey jack, green onions and sour cream).
Peanut butter ice cream pie for dessert.
Mom had everything the same, except she went with an 8 oz. sizzler instead of the prime.
Edit because apparently

z. is a smiley, not 8 oz.
