Looking to pick up one of those PDA things. It has to have the ability to take one of those GPS cards. Color screen would be nice. Don't really care about anything else other then I would like it to be based on M$ Pocket PC OS, not PALM.
Any ideas?

Sorry Coz. Not a fan of the MS Pocket PC interface, I prefer PALM, so I can't really make a suggestion for you.

I was looking at either them or the Dell Axim. Then I realized its like $300 for the PocketPC and then another $100.00 for the damn GPS program/card.
OUCH!

I'm with Ciggie regarding the OS - any reason you want to go with Micro$shaft?
The Ipaq's are nice - you can get a fully refurbed (with full warranty) at the HP Outlet
http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirec...et_cookies=trueThey have them starting at $143.00

Once a year I for some reason decide its time to try using a PDA again and every year I remember why I didn't bother with it for more than a week the previous year. They seem cool and such, but when it comes right down to it my cell phone can store my contacts and appointments and folds out and has a keyboard.... the PDA just is too bulky to fit in a pocket and really isn't of much use except for reviewing email, which my phone does anyhow. They're really not all they're cracked up to be in my opinion.... too small to be useful and useable and too big to be comfortably portable (If you're a man anyhow.... for the ladies they fit nicely in a purse. hee hee)

I have Toshiba e740 and i really like it. If I have to choose I would go either with Toshiba or Ipaq.

The one I had with built in camera, the View Sonic was pretty damn good. And is 200 after rebates almost every month. You don't ened the camera though, but it was nice. And honestly, unless your heavy business man you won't enjoy having one.

Well, I've been using my Ipaq for about a year and a half now and I love it - couple it with my bluetooth and gps phone and I've got everything I need at my fingertips!! lol
Look around for a refurbished one or try ebay - always good for a bargain!
Word, Excel, Email, games, more utilities than you can shake a stick at...etc...etc...etc
Endless possibilities - some people don't find PDA's useful for anything more than cool factor btu I have been using mine daily for a heck of a lot more!
Cheers

I also am looking at PDAs. I currently use a Xircom Rex 6000pro, which is a TINY touch-screen card that has text e-mail, calendar, contacts, appointments, and calculator. It is built on a PCcard, so it can plug into a PCMCIA slot on my laptop to synchonize the data with the programs on the laptop. It weighs about as much as a pc card, too, so it fits in a shirt pocket behind my fountain pen with no problem.

I LOVE the size. But it is no longer manufactured as of 2002, and no longer supported, except by a users group online. So it's future is zilch. And I find I need more memory space than it affords.

So, my question is, what is the SMALLEST PDA still available? Anyone know how I can find out?
Edit: Don't want a smart phone. I don't want to be THAT available.

I got an Ipaq 2210 a couple of weeks ago and it's excellent.
My main reason was to help me organise myself, which it's doing admirably. I can now jot notes about jobs I have to do alongside the relevant task, and find my info easily. I used to use a paper notepad but it meant having info either in ther, or on the lappie, or on post-its; now it's all in one place.
It's also invaluable as an entertainment centre, I've got eBooks on it, games, and some audio books. I have a car charger for it and headphones so I can listen to the books when I'm driving and there's nothing interesting on the radio.
It cost £208 ex tax from Insight UK, and the 256MB SD card was about £35. Luckily work paid for it, and when I get our infrastructure up to scratch I'm going to get a GPRS card for mobile access to email.
It'll do GPS with the right card and software but I haven't looked into this side of it much.
I'm with Gandalf on this, I wouldn't want to be without mine.

Varth, really if you just want the to-do and address book - consider a CASIO PIM.

I have always associated Casio with cheap stuff. I take it this isnt the case? I want a cool toy also.

How good are images displayed on the Ipaqs. I am looking at the 2215 and it woudl be great because it takes CF cards and I could use that for my business.

Pretty good given the size of the display.
