A couple of weeks ago I installed spybot s&d and instantly had all kinds of problems the worst of which I have no idea how to put right.

Problem is when I shut down puter it gets as far as "windows is closing down" and stops there. When I come to boot up it starts off and then just freezes, usually I have to try 4 or 5 times before it boots up all the way.

I'm on windows98se

Any help would be much appreciated but I cant stress enough I am completely green at this (at nightclass I'm on week three) so any help would have to be step by step. icon_cry.gif

Try this. It's a 98 shutdown patch.

Hello Ace High, Thanks for your reply, please dont take this the wrong way but I'm in a mess because I installed a prog which I took at face value as being O.K.

Since I've never heard of this company you suggest and given that I don't even know what a patch is, how do I know that I'm not gonna make matters worse?

You see my dilemma? icon_frown.gif

Kev,
if you feel more comfortable you can get the 98 shutdown patch from MS.
While you may have done it before some programs install/uninstall routines break it and then it needs to be reapplied
