I am having all sorts of trouble o/c my Athlon 1133. It will only go out to 1174 b4 becoming unstable. Is this to do with the L1 cache mod or just my board/ram icon_question.gif System specs are in sig.
Jason
What is your multiplier and bus speed ?
fxr91
My FSB is at 138. If I go higher than this, I lose USB with Win XP, and system crashes start occuring. My Ram is at the default CAS 2.5, and I am using the auto setting on my CPU core voltage.

I have the same processor with an ECS K7S5A. I have had it up to 1.3GHZ with no problems.

Do you have the most recent bios version on your mobo? You might start there, but be careful flashing the bios, if there is a newer one. icon_twisted.gif

Yeah, I have flashed b4, but I heard that MSI's latest BIOS causes a few probs. I might check back into the forums there and see if there have been any developments

my first question is.....did you increase the Vcore?? If you didn't increase it, it should solve your probs.

Second Q, did you buy the cheapest ram you could or name brand? if you bought the cheapest, go and get some good ram.

Third Q, what is your PSU rated at?? (not total, but 3.3v + 5v) It should be rated at or above 220w. You can check if this is the prob by looking at the 3.3v line, and at the 5v line. If they are too far below the spec (3.3v or 5v) this can cause instablitiy.

woz_mann,
A1. I have incresed the Vcore, but only to 1.85 at the moment. My board only lets me go up to 1.850 max self adjustment. On this, I tried to up my multiplier, but when I do, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

A2. I went with a Kingston DDR module. As far a I could tell, they were pretty reputable, apparently comparable to Kingston, but Sandra doesn't think so.

A3. I have a 250W PSU, and will be getting a new 300W PSU with my new case soon. My 3.3V is running @ 3.25 and my 5V is running @ 4.9. This seems good.

Have a nice day all

USB is the first thing to go....or so I'm told icon_rolleyes.gif

icon_idea.gif U need atleast a 350 psu for 1311 ru prob running into starving the chip of power especially when u overclocked it...u also have other things that consume power and they are prob starving too which make for one unstable comp....my advice...turn her back down to her origanal speeed and when u get another PSU (power supply unit) then overclocker her...but for now....just run her normal...if she is unstable them underclock her icon_arrow.gif icon_arrow.gif icon_arrow.gif GOODLUCK

I am running a 1133 too, I can't seem to go over the 138 fsb! Actually about 139, since my bios says it is 138, but at startup I get 1394 Mhz. My word of advice is to unlock the multiplier, I'm using the good old pencil trick.. it works for me without any problems!!
The only thing that I think my system needs is a larger PSU, Mine is an AOpen 300W I think I need a 400W or higher.
My Vcore is at 1.85
DDR Voltage is at 2.7

Checked the article that was posted. Damn, looks like a new KT266A board is required. Probably go with an Asus, stuff MSI... seems a bit substandard to the Asus boards...
fxr91
how do you unlock the multiplier? Is that the L1 cache trick that I heard about? I have seen an article on the XP chip, but not mine...

Here is a good step by step.

Oh well, I just went out and bought a brand new GA-7VTXE+ from Gigabyte(KT 266A). I have read a couple of reviews and found it to be a nice quick board(relatively inexpensive too). This solves the KT266 limitation with USB going at 139 FSB. Now to unlock my CPU.... I will post how I go..
Shoush
Great.. tell me how it goes with you... I think that the 1133 don't handle upped FSB as nicely as the other CPU's.. Tell me how far you get with it..
fxr91
I ahve now got the CPU up to 1250 without unlocking the multiplier. It is happily sitting @ 147 FSB. I will get around to doing the L1, but for now, this works for me...
Shoush
Congrats... If you want to do the L1 bridges you can test them out by connecting them using a pencil.. (too bad it doesn't work for the XP's)..
fxr91
Now I am up to 1275 with FSB @ 150. My VCore is upped also, so i am pumping out a little extra heat now. Just as a matter of interest, what temp can the Athlon get to b4 being a risk?
Really need to look at getting into water or something similar. Currently under full load when folding, she is at 65c, but idle drops down to 58c. Keeping a good eye on it though, just to play safe...

BTW shoush, what cooling r u using? I am considering a peltier, but everyone seems to be using watercooling.
icon_idea.gif I might have to start a poll about that one, me thinks...
