My XP Pro work station can no longer log into my Win2K domain... whenever I try, regardless of user name, I get a message "Cannot log you onto the domain".
Any ideas?

Tried removing the machine from the domain and then rejoining... still nothing. The server can see and access the PC but the PC cannot log into the domain.

Is the PC listed in Users and Computers ?
Do you use GPO's, have you altered these at all recently ?

Group Policy Objects they are restrictions you can place on many things (security feature). If done wrong they can screw up badly.
So the PC is part of the domain as its listed in Users and Computers, what happens when you try and log on to this PC with a domain account ?

You should still be able to log on to the PC with the domain listed even when not connected to the domain due to the cached logon's, assuming you have managed to log on at least once but you will have access to none of the domain resources but still be logged on to the PC.

It will only let me log on to the local machine. I can answer more from home later.

1. Check the clock on the XP box. Win2K uses Kerberos security and it's very time sensitive.
2. Remove it from the domain from the client. Uninstall TCP/IP, then re-install it, re-assign IP info, then try again.

Here's the funny thing... I can log in as admin but not with my user name. When I try to log in as myself I get the message: "Password Expired". Then when I try to change the password I get the message: "Password cannot be changed domain is unavailable."

since you can get in as the Admin, the connection to the domain is intact. Using the admin account, reset the password settings for your user name.
If this can't be done,You may want to search the MS knowledge base or TechNet. I think I remember this, (or something similar) as a known issue having to do with user account coruption, with a work-around/repair available.

Oh, I'm in now... all I had to feckin' do was delete my account on the server, create a new one and then log in. Of course now my profile is gone and I can't access my folders without taking ownership.
Feckin' stoopid PC.
