Ive got an Asus GF 2 MX 32Mb SD RAM.

How much can i OC it without any form of cooling, not on the RAM, and not on the GPU ?

i have my herc gf2 mx400 at 210/200 stock everything.

My geforce 2 sits at 225/200 with a Pentium 1 HSF on it (fan running on 5 volts to keep noise down) and no memory cooling (except a 80mm case fan pointing at it)

That is stable most of the time, unless i play games for about 3 hours and then it gets too hot

I'm running 225/220 w/stock heat sinks... no worries. Although, I'm pretty sure the life of the card is affected. Now and then I'll see an artifact line that spazzes for a split-second... but nothing major.

Of course, I've got a 120mm monster AC fan blowing straight across it to keep it cool.

Used to have the MX400, hated it. I just got it shortly after the GeForce 3 came out...then I got the GeForce4MX 440 right after the 128's came out, and I got the FX a couple months after the 256's came out...

in my experience, OCing a GF2 is not really noticable, and even if you get 5 more fps, the amount of times it will lock up, or produce artifacts is crazy...just save up if you can, and buy a new vid card...

Yeah... GeForce FX 5200 is a fairly good card and usually only about $70 CAD now I think...

No, no it is not good. You call a glorified GeForce 2 MX that's rebranded good? Paying $100 for crap is good? I state $100 because that's what you pay for it at Best Buy where the general consumer buys their "upgrade" PC parts. Just break down and get a 9600/5700. Here comes a big useless rant that no one will read. My main system was built almost three years ago and it's still almost near the top of the line. Isn't it sad that RDRAM speeds are *just now* being surpased on a real-life level with DDR2? My two year old 9700 is still $200 (paid $250) and 256 megs of pc-1066 rdram is still $120! I don't think any of my current PC hardware that is so old has lost more than half of its value. I find that sad. Bring out some real desktop Pentium Ms!

Why bring it out Pentium M's when we have A64's the perform as well/better.

Dothans are quite good cores, but I don't see why bring them out when we already have better counterpart's.

I believe it is the GeForce 4 MX series that is simply a glorified GeForce 2. From experience, the GeForce 4 isn't much of a performance boost from the GeForce 2. HOWEVER, the GeForce FX 5200 is far superior to the GeForce 4 MX, as compared to less than 3 FPS in Doom 3 640x480 low graphics, to 13 FPS in Doom 3 640x480 low graphics. The GeForce FX 5200 isnt a bad card at all, however I got sick of it when it began to lag up my computer when I overclocked it. Now I'm proudly sitting with a GeForce 6600GT... such a sweet card, 60 FPS in Doom 3 at 1280x1024 at High graphics, rock bottom was about 50 FPS lol. (128 MB GDDR3)

Anyway, in all honesty, No, the GeForce FX 5200 IS a decent card for those who are looking for a cheap, minor upgrade. Buying the 128 MB one is $80, whereas the 256 MB one is something like $140. FX 5200 uses a newer graphics engine than GeForce 2, and runs newer games MUUUUCCCHHHHH better. I KNOW this from experience, as I have owned all 3 cards previously.

as a side note I managed to sell my GeForce MX 440 to someone for $40 lol...

You call 3 to 13 a worthy upgrade for 80 dollars? help.gif

I don't know how someone can recomend that card. If the user is not worried about games, stick to your GF2MX. If your worried about games, your wasting your money on that card. For 50 bucks more you can find such better cards. Search e-bay or online stores for a Ti-4200 whitch will outperform the 5200 in DX8. Although the 5,200 supports DX9, it's useless at it.

lol well 15 FPS to 20 FPS isnt much for $400 lol... I'm surprised because NFS Underground 2 is the only game I have that the GeForce 6600GT doesnt run at more than 20 icon_confused.gif

But the games look alot nicer with DX9, I know its not a very powerful card and I thought the Ti's were around $100+, I know very well that they outperform the FX 5200

I dont know, I was pretty happy with the FX, and when I saw the performance difference between the MX440 and the FX 5200, I'd say it was a good buy, but, I guess its in the opinion of the person

Very true. But, if you have a x800XT PE, and you spend 500 on the x850XT, then that's your bad (the small increase) but spending 80 from a GF4MX for 10 FPS when you could spend 150+ and get 50+ FPS, I don't know
