Ok I have a new... errrr old laptop I just got from my sister... it has no model or ethernet card... so I was woundering internetsharing... can that be done over a parallel port??? the lap top is 98 se and my other computers are XP and Linux...

Can only do direct connect with a crossover cable via serial. Buy a NIC, they are cheap.

Does it have a PCMCIA slot? If so, pick up a Linksys Ether-Anywhere (or equivalent) card. That's how my Compaq Proliant 1621 (AMD 233) gets on my network.

I have 2 PCMCIA slots... but I was hoping not to have to spend money on it seeing as its just a lil poo laptop...

I have seen those Parallel -> USB things... there nice if you don't have a USB... which I don't
this laptop is so old... only as Parallel and Com ports...

you actually can do parallel ip, but its slow as hell. if your instereted read up on plip. its availble in the linux kernel and there is an application out there somewhere for windows. it also requres a funky parallel cable...but yeah, whatever works fi you dont have a nic
